Most spaces can benefit from a good cleaning, and a pondless waterfall is no exception. Regular maintenance can keep your water feature functioning properly and ensure clear, beautiful water.

How Do I Know if My Pondless Waterfall Needs to be Cleaned?

Keeping an eye on your water feature will help you know when it’s time for a cleaning. If the liner is showing or you see excess algae, pay heed. Debris like leaves and gunk in the reservoir also indicate that your pondless waterfall could use a scrub.

What Are the Steps to Cleaning a Pondless Waterfall?

Ready to take on cleaning your pondless waterfall? Here’s your checklist:

1. Turn off and remove pumps.

2. Drain the reservoir.

This is also a great time to manually remove debris like leaves.

3. Pressure wash rocks along the waterfall and reservoir.

A garden hose doesn’t have enough pressure to get the job done. A power washer will enable you to remove the algae and gunk. In addition to cleaning, this is also a good time to rearrange rocks as needed. As Dan explains in the video, careful placement of larger rocks can help keep debris from the Aquablocks.

4. Rinse reservoir.

Flush out the area really well so that you wash out the gunk that came off the rocks.

5. Clean out vault.

There’s probably a bit of sediment in the bottom of that vault. Now is the time to get it outta there.

6. Refill water feature.

7. Check edges.

Once your pondless waterfall is back up and running, make sure everything is operating smoothly. That includes ensuring the liner edges are in place. If there’s a leak, it’s probably a low liner edge.

8. Add treatments.

Beneficial bacteria are where it’s at. A little goes a long way toward keeping your water clean and your water feature healthy.
