Create a Pro Bowl Yard

A certain Kansas City Chief has a real passion for the outdoors and nature. Pro Bowl punter Dustin Colquitt was ready to transform his yard into an outdoor oasis – and Good Earth Water Gardens was thrilled to help.

Big Landscaping Plans

Dustin hired High Prairie Landscape Group and owner Robyn Schmitz to tackle this project. The goal was to create a yard that felt like the foothills of Tennessee, where Dustin grew up. The design included patio space with an outdoor kitchen and firepit, landscape beds with changing elevations, lots of trees, blooming shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, boulder outcroppings, and dry stream beds. But no thorough landscape design is complete without a few water features!

Robyn wanted to ensure that the water features were installed by qualified professionals using the highest quality products. So, she contacted Good Earth Water Gardens.

Dustin loves the outdoors and nature and was very involved with the landscape design. Come to find out this Pro Bowler is fascinated with rocks. But not just ordinary rocks – he likes boulders, big boulders! It was no surprise that he had already selected a few before we started our phase of the project.

The goal of this build was no ordinary fountain or pond. Dustin hoped for a space that would take him back to the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. It was in these creeks and streams where he’d play as a kid.

Two Unique Water Features

First, we installed a custom bubbling boulder right off the front porch. Dustin was inspired by a few bubbling boulders in his neighbor’s yard and selected this 3,000-pound boulder himself. It’s safe to say he now has the largest bubbling fountain on the street. Here’s how it happened.

Next, we installed a small pond using some large boulders. Space was limited by trees and shrubs and the family’s desire for the pond to not stick too far into the yard. Plus, we ended up digging through clay and big chunks of limestone. We were able to use large stones in the waterfall and around the pond. Many of the boulders weighed between 1,000 – 2,000 pounds!

It was worth all the hard work when we turned on the water. The Colquitt kids were amazed when they saw water bubbling from the boulder for the first time. And our Pro Bowler was in awe when he saw the water flowing out of the waterfall. Dustin said it was a small reminder of home that looked like God had placed it there. That’s one of the nicest compliments we’ve ever received!
